Course Content
Entrance Examination
Mon the 10th of September 2018 at 17.00-20.00
You should register for the entrance examination by the 31st of August 2018 through the Summer University exam calendar. The exact classroom for the exam will be informed on the same site later. The exams will be arranged at the Oulu University. Entrance exam will be charged separately from the Basic Studies.
The entrance examination is a written exam and consists of two or three different writing tasks of various length (approx. 300–400 words). The examination is in English. The maximum number of points in the written examination is 40 points. Please note that the applicant cannot consult the reading materials during the examination.
The aim of the entrance examination is to test the applicant’s ability to grasp the content presented in the reading materials and accordingly apply it in the writing tasks. To be considered for admission, the applicant must score at least 50% of the available points in each of the written tasks. The assessment of the written tasks will focus on the following issues:
1. content – the relevance and accuracy of the answers
2. language – the grasp of vocabulary and grammatical precision, the ability to write clearly, fluently and flawlessly
3. structure and organization – the logical presentation and overall coherence of the argumentation

You should register for the English Philology Basic Studies 25 ETCS by the 31st of August 2018 in Oulu using the registration form at the end of this page (Register-button). The number of participants is limited. Students accepted in English Philology Basic Studies need to have passed the entrance examination.
The registration is binding. If the student wishes to cancel his/her registration after the registration time (31.8.18), he/she will be charged half the price of the studies. If the student does not make a cancellation at all, the total price will be charged.
PLEASE NOTE! If you will not pass the examination your registration for the studies will be cancelled by the Summer University office.
